On Thursday, Judge Theodore H. Katz of New York's Southern District ruled that the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) would finally end 35-year of turning a blind eye regarding the efficacy and safety of antibiotic use in livestock. The lawsuit filed in 2011 by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), the Natural Resources Defense Council(NRDC), Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT), Public Citizen, and Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) resulted from growing concerns regarding the long term health affects following exposure to these antibiotics through consumption of livestock, namely the increase in antibiotic-resistant bacterias known as superbugs.

Beyond Pesticides is an organization that not only highlights the dangers of chemical pesticides but offers non-toxic solutions. Formally known as the National Coalition Against the Misuse of Pesticides, Beyond Pesticides has been around since 1981 educating the public on how pesticides impact our lives and the environment. Ads attacking alternative milks are downright hilarious but tinged with sadness as well. One mocks alternative milk that require shaking. Farm fresh milk requires shaking to ensure the fats get mixed back into the milk but we've become so distant from farm fresh that many don't know that. What we are really seeing here is fear. More people are forgoing cow's milk because of health concerns and the dairy industry is feeling it. While milk alternatives like soy, coconut and almond milk can be a little more expensive they're totally worth the expense. But what if you could make your own right in the kitchen?
