Choosing a Healthy Personal Lubricant: Find some Good Clean Love
Clean ingredients are important in all our personal care products, but especially those that come in contact with our most intimate body parts. The mucus membranes in the vagina and anus are especially sensitive, and we should avoid using dangerous ingredients like parabens and polyquarternium-15 in our personal lubricants.
According to a recent study from the University or Pittsburgh, most brands of personal lubricant actually DAMAGE the sensitive mucus membranes found in the vagina. Most brands of personal lubricant feature nasty ingredients like parabens and other endocrine disruptors. Not only are these ingredients bad for the whole body, the use of these lubricants actually increases the risk of developing bacterial vaginosis by 13%. Petrochemical-based lubricant brands can cause significant damage and damage sensitive mucous membranes, and increase the risk of all infections (including STDs and yeast infections). Check out this infographic from Good Clean Love to learn more about why it’s important to keep our body parts free of chemicals.
But finding a healthy personal lubricant is not hard. As their name suggests, Good Clean Love lubricant features clean and awesome ingredients for whole-body health. Aloe vera gel, non-GMO xanthan gum, agar (a seaweed), potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, citric acid and natural flavors make for a simple, clean lube. All the ingredients check out with the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database, with potassium sorbate featuring as the only low risk ingredients; others are all no risk! Their ingredient list is actually all edible! The product itself is not listed in the database, but with all the ingredients passing, their product wins in my book!
