3. Calendula

Calendula’s bright yellow and orange petals can dye material various shades of gold. When the Spaniards arrived in Mexico, they missed their beloved Saffron but locals quickly found a replacement that brought the gorgeous yellow to their rice dishes. It was Calendula. Beneficial mostly as a first aid herb, Calendula is also the perfect choice for treating skin eruptions. Most often made into a salve, the ointment can aid in easing rashes, cuts and scraps. In an herbal infusion  the flower  brings a rich golden color to oil.
