105 Ways to Simplify Your Virtual Life
3. Declutter your communication outlets
Skype, MSN, GoogleTalk, ICQ, AIM all have the similar functions and you can transfer all your contacts to your favorite. There are programs you can download which can actually combine several Instant Messengers in one.
Think of the social media – Facebook, Twitter, G+, etc. Do you get quality information from all of them? I found out that although Facebook is highly recommended for the promotion of creative business I don’t get adequate response, so I am freeing myself of it. I prefer to concentrate my online efforts in something that actually works for me.
Limit your inboxes. Gmail offers a way to combine the incoming mail from all your existing email accounts which I find extremely useful. Since I only open one account a day I don’t have to remember multiple passwords and to open tens of browser tabs. That is how my mind can stay free for the more important stuff I do on the Internet.
Keep your inbox empty. It is a simple way to create a sense of order. Don’t let unread emails accumulate, set filters to organize them, unsubscribe from unwanted mail and mark as spam whatever you consider spam.
