Enjoy more Fruits & Vegetables at Work!
When it comes to eating healthy, we’re constantly bombarded with advice to eat our fruits and vegetables everyday. The body needs all kinds of essential nutrients in order to stay healthy. By making sure you get your five a day (at least!), you could be protecting yourself against a wide variety of illnesses. The problem is it’s not always easy to eat healthily while you’re at work. If you’re struggling to ensure you’re getting the right amount of nutrients in your daily diet, there are a few things you can do.
Understand portion size!
Before you can be sure you are getting the amount of fruits and veggies your body needs, you first have to understand what a portion is. This can be quite difficult, but some fruit and vegetables feature this information on their packaging. As a general rule, two tangerines is one of your five-a-day. A banana is one portion and seven cherry tomatoes is one portion. The smaller the fruit, the more you’ll need to make up a portion. The Daily Mail featured some great information on portion sizes, as well as statistics on why it’s important to get five portions every single day.
Double (or triple) up!
An easy way to get your daily dose of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals from plants is to try to include at least two or more portions in one meal. This is actually easier than it sounds. You could order fresh sandwiches and request they come with avocado, alfalfa sprouts, onions, tomato and rocket salad. This will give you around two portions of your daily recommendation. Creating a smoothie is also a great way to get your five-a-day. It’s even possible to get all five portions of fruit and vegetables in one smoothie! Green smoothies are a great way to sneak in healthful leafy greens to those that don’t yet enjoy their flavor.
Have fresh fruit delivered to your work!
In order to increase the chances of you actually eating fruit at work, you could get it delivered. Fruitful Office is one great company that offers office fruit delivery. Getting your 5-a-day on a budget
One of your main worries might be getting all of your portions when you haven’t got a lot of money to spare. The good news is there are plenty of ways to get your 5-a-day on a budget. You can start buying vegetables and fruit loose, rather than prepackaged or premade. This will also limit the amount of waste you have too. Only buy enough for a couple of days or order from a reliable company to deliver it for you at work. Eating healthfully is often cheaper than eating junk food these days, especially if you take into account how great you feel after fruit and veggie-fresh meals!
