5Composting for the Masses
What does “done” look like?
When talking compost, done is a beautiful thing. Ever hear a gardener talk about black gold? That would be it. There is usually still some heavier pieces that haven’t completely decomposed, but on the whole the compost should be broken down, a lovely dark color, and the bits and pieces should no longer be recognizable for what they once were.
It’s done, now what?
Use it! Plant some flowers. Amend your soil. Watch new things grow from the old you have recycled.
Don’t have a green thumb? Pass the compost along. A neighbor, friend, relative, church, school, or community garden would be glad to take it and put it to good use. You never know, you may end up with some tomatoes or flowers in return.
Do you compost? Do you have any tips you can share?
