Where Do Old Computers Go?
Electronic equipment is a major source of hazardous waste, and needs to be disposed of properly to prevent hazardous substances entering the environment. More than two million tons of electronic waste end up in U.S. landfills every year. Many states have electronics recycling programs. If you are replacing a computer that’s still in working order, check to see if there’s a local charity or nonprofit will recycle it. Nationally, the National Cristina Foundation accepts gifts of computers to be donated to people with disabilities. Dell Computer also has a recycling and donation program.
