4Green Fashion on a Budget
For people who want to support eco living with green fashion choices, the biggest challenge is the cost. Unfortunately, cheap clothing is rarely fair trade fashion or eco friendly. However, there are a few things you can do to afford green fashion with a limited budget. To get the most value for green clothing purchases:
- Choose items that are well made and have classic styling. A $70 dress that you wear four or five times a year for 20 years is actually less expensive per use than a $20 shirt you wear two or three times for only one year.
- Look for clothing that has been made with recycled cloth—making cloth for the first time uses a lot more resources than reusing cloth that already exists.
- Consider shopping in your friends’ closets—holding a clothing swap that keeps all of your discards out of the landfill is about as green as fashion can get.
