Going green has evolved from a movement of the crunchy counterculture to a mainstream obsession. Large corporations know there is money to be made from eco-friendly product claims, yet consumers are often left disillusioned by what it really means to be green. “Corporate baking giant” Sara Lee is no exception to greenwashing claiming its “Eco-Grain” is more sustainable than organically grown grains.

New Year’s Resolutions at Colorado’s Green Breweries

Green beer doesn’t just mean toasting to a four-leaf clover on St. Patrick’s Day or buying a six pack of Rolling Rock. Colorado breweries are at the forefront of the green revolution, essentially leading the way toward creating products with renewable energy. In Colorado, two major brewing companies each made announcements of green improvements to their breweries early in January of 2010: New Belgium and Odell.

Celebrate Hot Tea Month with a Greener Cuppa

Did you know January was Hot Tea Month? Me neither… apparently, though, the Tea Council of the US saw the height of cold and flu season as the perfect time to extol the health benefits of a hot cup of tea. According the Council’s web site, TeaUSA.com, theanine and flavonoids may contribute to a healthier immune system, and help you fight off those winter bugs.

Britain Brings New Climate Change Recommendations on Meat to the Table

Governments around the world are issuing varying calls related to sustainability, but most of them focus on political and financial issues. Typically, governments don’t get involved in making food recommendations, but Andy Burnham, Britain’s Health Secretary is embracing the web that links food, sustainability, and personal health. Calling climate change a “very real and present danger” to health, he has issued an official government recommendation that Britons eat a third less meat.
