National Day of Unplugging: Reboot and Detox For a Healthier Mind
After starting 2012 with some amazing simple living and de-cluttering challenges we are ready to greet March in the same spirit. More and more people are warming up to the Slow Movement ideas of leading a deliberate balanced life, concentrated on meaning and fulfillment.
But there are some, who take the slow living principles to the next level.
The Sabbath Manifesto is a creative project aimed to slow down our lives in an increasingly hectic world. The Manifesto was developed by Reboot, a network of writers, filmmakers, artists and media professionals who work toward a common goal to bring back the moments of peaceful rest in our fast-paced modern life. Reboot initiated a National Day of Unplugging that will be observed from Sundown of March 23rd to sundown of March 24th.
What is it?
National Unplug Day, together with the Sabbath Manifesto were created to help us reclaim our peace of mind. Increasingly busy and stressed out, we tend to forget that there are simple actions we can take in our lives to make them more bearable and even enjoyable through devoting time to those closest to us or taking care of our own mental health simply by slowing down and keeping our distance from the modern technical conveniences.
How can you participate?
Take the unplugging pledge and starting March 23rd avoid technology for 24 hours. Simple as that. Consider this the first step to your tech detox diet. The initiators of National Unplug Day have come up with 10 main principles which may serve as a guideline:
- Avoid technology
- Connect with your loved ones
- Nurture your health
- Get outside
- Avoid commerce
- Light Candles
- Drink wine
- Eat bread
- Find silence
- Give back
The principles are open for discussion and you can not only interpret them in the way that you see fit for your lifestyle but you can add your own.
You can tech detox by yourself or in a group, at home or outdoors, it is all up to you but the main thing is to reconnect with your soul, emotions, and be able to hear your inner voice again. The National Unplug Day can be extended into a once a week getaway from technology that will help you see new horizons in the field of personal growth and development.
So, what do you say, are we doing this together?
