Healthy Homemade Cocktails
Happy weekend!
Whether you’ve faced a long day at work or just want to settle in for a long conversation, sometimes a handmade cocktail is just the right thing. This post features a round-up of some beautiful homemade cocktails, all featuring wholesome ingredients to make your buzz just a bit healthier. My favorite bloggers have created these cocktail creations featuring blood oranges, organic blueberries, yuzu, kaffir lime and other botanicals that and unique and inspired. Bottoms up!
First up are three beautiful cocktails featuring blood oranges– one of my favorite winter citrus fruits. Blood oranges are smaller, raspberry tinted oranges that appear in late winter and can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some of the most delicious: Smitten Kitchen has a great Blood Orange Margarita to bring some sunshine in her late-winter New York life. We also have here a pretty-in-pink Blood Orange Gin Sparkler from 101 Cookbooks, a pretty and lightly-colored cocktail for warmer afternoons. Finally, a cocktail featuring bourbon (one of my favorite wintertime libations) and our gorgeous pink citrus: a Blood Orange Bourbon Cocktail from Rosemarried.
Hopefully you are a fan of citrus, because the next cocktail up features another fun winter citrus: yuzu. This Yuzu Maple Leaf Cocktail from 101 Cookbooks sounds amazing: highlighting the best of winter citrus touched with dark maple syrup and warming bourbon (and a pinch of salt- that’s her secret!). The next cocktail features a version of citrus– the evocative and pungent kaffir lime leaf. This citrus tree produces nearly inedible fruits, but the leaves are incredible– perfumely, citrusy and amazing; these are used extensively in Thai and other Southeast Asian cuisine. But, on Rosemarried, kaffir lime is mixed with gin for a twist on a classic, a Kaffir Lime Gin and Tonic. Finally, a simple martini featuring the awesome flavor and color of fresh fruits– something to make you look forward to those first berries of the season. This simple Blueberry Infused Vodka from Local Kitchen is as easy as can be: blueberries + vodka + two weeks = this amazingly purple cocktail, perfect for summertime weather which is surely on its way soon!
Cheers! All images from 101 cookbooks, Smitten Kitchen, Rosemarried, and Local Kitchen.
