Press Release: TerraCycle Creates Recycling Oppurtunities for Students
Recycling pioneer TerraCycle, Inc. is the newest partner of online fundraising program GoEco! The Ultimate Eco-Fundraiser. Schools and other non-profit organizations, including TerraCycle Brigade members, can earn 15% from the online sale of hundreds of eco-friendly, upcycled TerraCycle products just by signing up for GoEco!
Participation with GoEco! is the second way schools and non-profits can earn money through TerraCycle. The first way is with TerraCycle’s free Brigade programs which allow anyone to collect and recycle almost 50 kinds of products or packaging waste that would otherwise be thrown away. The collector earns TerraCycle points for each item sent in that can be redeemed for charitable gifts or a cash donation to the non-profit or school of the collector’s choice. TerraCycle upcycles or recycles the waste collected into new, innovative products.
Participation in TerraCycle’s Brigade programs and GoEco! provides two ways to learn about recycling and garbage. By sending items to TerraCycle, students see how beneficial it is to keep items out of the landfill. When they purchase something made with TerraCycle waste, they see how something that would have been garbage can be turned into a new, useful product. This way schools and community groups can teach a complete lesson to students about recycling and resource conservation while also earning much needed funding.
“TerraCycle is thrilled to partner with GoEco! to enable communities to earn additional funding in these uncertain economic times,” said TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky. “I am excited that students will get an opportunity to use, sell and profit from the very products they make possible by collecting waste in the TerraCycle Brigades! ”
In addition to the regularly running Elmer’s Glue and Scotch Tape Brigades, these two brands that are an everyday use within the classroom are hosting some great promotions and contests to help educate kids and get them involved in helping the environment and the community. The contests have already begun and will continue to run until June 2013.
Elmer’s Glue Crew Sweepstakes will announce three winners randomly chosen each month from locations who have sent in a shipment during that month. Each shipment counts as an “entry” into the contest, so the more shipments you send, the greater your chance of winning an awesome prize pack of brand new Elmer’s products!
The Scotch Tape Tycoon offers two chances to win awesome 3M prizes! The first prize is rewarded to those who are just sending in their first Scotch Tape shipment! Then, each month, the top 10 collectors in the Scotch Tape Brigade will be rewarded with an eco-friendly prize pack that includes a variety of eco-friendly 3M products. To find out more about these contests or about how you can get involved, visit our website at TerraCycle.
Here’s some more about TerraCycle: They are an international upcycling and recycling company that takes difficult-to recycle-packaging and turns it into affordable, innovative products. Founded in 2001, TerraCycle is the world’s leader in the collection and reuse of non-recyclable post-consumer waste. TerraCycle works with more than 40 major brands in the U.S. and around the world to collect used packaging and products that would otherwise be destined for landfills. It repurposes that waste into new, innovative materials and products that are available online and through major retailers. The waste is collected through TerraCycle’s Brigade programs, which are free fundraisers that pay for every piece of waste collected and returned.
