Review: Natural Latex Mattress by Plush Beds Offers Eco-Friendly Comfort

Looking for comfort in the bedroom while embracing eco-living? Plush Beds can make your dream a reality. Voted #1 Best Latex Mattress, their latex mattresses contain a generous layer of 100% natural Talalay latex and  natural Dunlop latex depending on your chosen thickness. Plush Beds generously offered one of their  8-inch Botanical Bliss Natural Latex Mattresses for me to keep in exchange for this review. The following information and review is based on my experience and I was not paid for this review. The experience has been nothing short of bliss and I’ve taken to promoting the bed among friends and family considering latex mattress purchases.

Here’s why you might want to consider the 8-Inch Botanical Bliss Natural Latex Mattress as your next bedroom purchase.

What Are Plush Bed Latex Mattresses Made From?

Besides the 100% Talalay latex and Dunlop latex, Plush Beds latex mattresses are 100% chemical free. The layers are not glued together, instead they are sewn together offering durability and glue-free composition. The mattresses have a high-quality organic cotton cover which is soft and non-woven, giving a softer touch and stretchable feel. A 100% natural Joma wool layer offers multiple benefits. Wool helps regulate body temperature helping to keep it cooler in the warmer months and warmer in the cooler months. Here in Phoenix, Arizona I was able to experience this first hand during the hot summer nights. I did not feel a difference between the latex mattress and our old mattress when it came to night time temperatures, and that’s a good thing. We were kept nice and cool without lower the thermostat. However, as the temperatures have fallen I have found the bed keeps us warmer now. Rather than raising the thermostat at night we are able to simply add our heavier blanket. It truly is a remarkable selling point for us and I can only imagine it would be relevant for those living in much colder climates.

What’s Missing in Latex Mattresses by Plush Beds

Their natural latex mattresses are carcinogen-free, formaldehyde-free and are free of chemical retardants. You won’t find petroleum fillers, synthetic blends or any harsh chemicals. Their cottons are not treated with pesticides and there are no anti-fungicides. What you will enjoy is a natural bed made from sustainable materials.

Shipping of the Plush Bed Latex Mattress was Easy

When we purchased our original mattress I had to take the morning off from work to be there for its delivery. I had expected the same with this mattress but was instead told it would be delivered to our door. I wondered how, but was thrilled to have the flexibility of not having to stay at home and what for delivery. Within the time they offered for shipping I received the mattress which came in a large rectangular box. The mattress comes rolled up and sealed in plastic. My husband and I removed our old mattress and carried the rolled mattress into our room. We carefully sliced off the plastic and unrolled the mattress onto our box spring. It took all of five minutes, maybe. It was so simple and the mattress was ready to go. What I noticed was not smell. There was not chemical or plastic smells that some new mattresses have. I had wondered how a latex mattress would smell since my mind kept bringing up the smells of latex gloves. I’m happy to report there was no smell.

How Did the Plush Bed Latex Mattress Feel?

Amazing. We had started researching mattresses awhile back but become disappointed with all the chemicals and lack of environmentally friendly products used to produce mattresses. We also wanted a mattress which would offer long-term comfort. While we were thrilled to try and the Plush Bed latex Mattress because of its eco-qualities, we did not expect such an amazingly comfortable night’s sleep. The mattress offers the same qualities as mattresses which maintain firmness on each side of the bed. We recalled the commercials with a wine glass on one side and a person bouncing on the other. While we haven’t braved wine glasses on the bed, we have noticed that when one of us tosses and turns the other does really feel it. With a traditional bed it is easy to feel every movement of the other occupant. We noticed, quite quickly, that the Plush Bed mattress maintained a separate environment for each person. At one point my husband recalled searching my side of the bed to make sure I was still there as we had both become accustomed to each other’s nocturnal movements. Needless to say, we both have slept better even though we were unaware of how our old mattress was keeping us from a good night’s sleep.

An Important Note about Latex Mattresses and Latex Allergies

Latex allergies are a serious matter and it’s become a consideration for those looking at natural latex mattresses but who may have these types of allergies. There has been research conducted and the results indicate those with latex allergies can still enjoy latex mattresses. Latex mattresses have a different make up than the latex used in medical gloves, for example. Mattresses have an open-cell structure while latex gloves have a close-cell structure. The mattresses also undergo a washing process which eliminates the protein allergens. Finally, the user generally will not come into contact with the latex because of the covering. For further information read more about latex allergies and mattresses to help ease your concerns. As with all medical issues, you should seek medical consultation regarding your health as Green Living Ideas does not offer or promote medical advice. In most cases, however, a latex mattress should make the list of considerations even if you have  a latex allergy.

Are you in the market for a new mattress? If so, is a natural latex mattress something you would consider?

Editor’s note: this review happened before I was brought on board to manage GreenLivingIdeas. I am not familiar with whether the writer was given the mattress to keep or not, and therefore, all opinions in this post are strictly the opinions of the writer, who is no longer with GLI. I apologize for any inconvenience. However, truth be told, the writer wrote several hundred articles for GLI, and was a respected and clear voice who did a lot of honest reviews.
