DOE Shows The South How To Save Energy

Tennessee has the second highest energy consumption in the nation due to its lack of energy efficiency in state building codes. The DOE and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are building a demonstration with the TVA at the Campbell Creek subdivision near Knoxville, Tennessee to show the cost advantages of energy efficiency.

Green Power: How Much Energy Are You Using?

We all use power- but how much are we really aware of how much? And how often do we leave lights and appliances on without realizing it? Two new projects aim to raise that awareness through visual cues that not only track energy usage, but alert us when we’ve been using power sources for extended periods. The Power-Aware Cord from Static! is a power strip designed to visualize how much energy is being used, and the Tio from TH Design takes the same concept with the goal of educating children about energy awareness.

Drying clothes outside on a clothesline is an image of a simpler time, not to mention a standard recommendation on lists of ways to reduce the carbon footprint at home. It’s one of those decisions that seems like a no-brainer to do something good for the Earth- can anyone really have a problem with it? Perkasie, Pennsylvania, is one of many neighborhoods that do.

Google PowerMeter Aims to Help People Reduce Their Electricity Usage

California May Regulate TV Energy Consumption

If you live in California and want a new television, you may have to move to get that super big flat screen of your dreams. Governor Schwarzenegger has given his support to the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) proposal to limit TV energy consumption. Current CEC figures estimate TV power usage to be approximately “10 per cent of household energy consumption in the state”. On October 13, 2009, a public hearing was held on the issue, and a vote may come as soon as November 4, 2009 to regulate maximum energy consumption for televisions.
