Using All Natural Household Products in Green Kitchens

Your kitchen is filled with gleaming new ENERGY STAR appliances and you compost every scrap that is suitable for your compost pile.  "What’s the next thing I can do to up the eco ante?" you ask.  One thing you
may want to consider is using all natural household cleaning products in your green kitchen.  To substitute green products for strong chemicals in the kitchen:

  • Look for products that say eco-friendly, all natural, or green on the label—sometimes you’ll find the Green Seal symbol.
  • Take a close look at your pantry shelves.  Distilled white vinegar and baking soda both are great for cleaning and deodorizing without chemicals.
  • Dispose of your non-green cleaning products in a safe manner.  Don’t just toss open containers in the waste basket or pour them down the drain.  Look for disposal instructions on the cleaning product labels and follow them carefully.
